Why did you start blogging? And why do you still blog?
I've been blogging for nearly 4 years now so if I could go and ask 12 year old me why, then I most definitely would. I honestly have no idea as to what made me want to blog in the first place but I do remember wanting to start youtube but thinking that blogging would be a better way to ease myself into the digital world. I still blog because I see so much potential in the whole blogging business in the future. It's one of my hobbies and keeping it up and creating new content is what I love. I've always been a creative and blogging has allowed me to showcase that. The blogging world is so mundane and so many bloggers are doing the same thing (not sending shots) so I want my blog and its content to somewhat be a breath of fresh air in the blogging community. Great, I've started rambling and this is only the first answer...
Can you briefly discuss your style 'evolution'?
My style evolution has been quite, uh, significant to say the least. Back when I was in years 7-9 my style was heavily influenced by the pastel/floral bloggers and youtubers so I would wear skater skirts, oversized knit jumpers, combat boots etc. It was definitely not me and was very tragic. In around year 10-11, my wardrobe was (and still is) dominated by Zara clothing, my style was quite sophisticated and very minimalist, sort of what you'd see on those street style pinterest accounts. Now my style is what I see as most fitting for me, it is what I feel most comfortable in- very laid-back and chilled out...in conclusion, my style has matured a lot.
I don't really gain instantly inspiration from 'things' if that makes sense. It takes quite a long time for it to build up, if I see something once and then later see it again and again that's when it'll click in my mind that this thing is quite prominent at the moment and should probably be taken into account. I have no idea if that made sense but then again that's the same with the rest of my responses lool. I am loving Dazhane Leah though, I've been following her for just over a year now, she's a London based photographer and her work is amazing and has a lot of deep concepts behind it. Her recent shoot was 'boyz will be boyz' and it explores black masculinity, her work isn't just the photos, it's the meaning behind them.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
I despise this type of question but loving asking others because it's very entertaining to see them squirm at the thought of their age and life in five years. Now I feel their pain. Karma. In five years I'll be 21 going on 22 (eeehhhhhh) I aim to go to any Russel Group university but being aspirational, Oxford would be great ha. Although the choice of course is not decided yet, a few degrees I am looking into are: History, History with Politics or Law (and then specialise in Human Rights) but again, I'm not certain. I do hope that I'll still be blogging then but who knows...the world in 2021 seems pretty daunting to me. I would like to be all cringey and shit and say that "I see myself as being happy" but knowing me, that's highly unlikely and complete happiness is almost impossible to reach in such a world.
What's the best thing about blogging? And how has it affected your life?
The best thing about blogging is the satisfaction you get out of it. When people actually read and comment on your posts it does make you feel something, and being able to compare your stats now to those from last year is great. Also the support you get from it too, I've made some banging friends through blogging @edie + @francisca. People who share my posts and tweet me telling me how much they like my blog or how they enjoyed my latest point honestly makes me so happy. As soon as someone does mention me in their #FF tweet I promise I can't stop smiling and my mum legit gets sick of me repeating to her that so and so said they liked my post. I sound pathetic but I guess it's just blogger things.
Dalal is my best blogging friend (bbf lol), and we've been talking since April 2015. She's genuinely hilarious, kind, creative, intelligent, and all the good stuff. I love reading her blog, and I will continue to check it on a daily basis. Dalal, you're lovely - keep doing what you're doing.
