How to Turn a Silk Scarf Into a Top - Two Ways

8.4.17

I love silk scarves. I collect them from vintage and charity shops, and I now have quite the collection (a ridiculous amount). I love wearing them in my hair, but other than that I never really wear them. But then I got to thinking, how can I have all of these beautiful pieces of fabric just laying around? I'd seen quite a few pictures of silk scarves as tops and though it looked so gorgeous. I'm a huge fan of the care-free, natural aesthetic recently, and I can just imagine frolicking (frolicking) on the beach wearing this and some shorts. If you have any old scarves gathering dust, I hope you find this useful. Don't let anything go to waste!

TV, Film and Fashion

12.12.16

Like all other art forms, fashion has many influences, and one of those I have been thinking about and experimenting with over the last few months is film. Films and tv shows move me emotionally and - i hate to say the word because it's so overused nowadays - aesthetically, and when I watch something that is styled really well and is to my taste, I will go through scene by scene and try to find an outfit similar to that in my wardrobe. Well, not really, but basically. Whether it's the costumes, hair, makeup, setting, each film comes with a certain tone to it. What, I'm trying to say is: film and tv really influence what I wear.

How Does My Style Reflect My Personality?

24.11.16

Eleanor Claudie is a genius, my friends. We'd been planning to do some sort of collab post and she came out with this amazing idea that we shoot an outfit we feel represents us and then write about style reflecting personality in general. I love this idea, as it's actually something I've been thinking about over the last few weeks. I've been in a bit of a slump: I can never find anything I feel comfortable wearing or want to wear, I'm ill, my eyebrows always go badly in the morning etc etc.. it's just that time of the year. But this really got me thinking about the ever-changing clothes I wear and how I'm influenced by different things. Example: for Halloween, I was Cher from Clueless. The next day I bought a second hand salmon jumper and a pink slip dress. I wore it with black fishnets and black vagabonds.

The 'Alternative Icon'

Ambika Conroy and Cruelty-Free Fur

30.3.16

Anyone who hears the oxymoron 'cruelty-free fur' is likely to roll their eyes and tell you to stop being gullible. I don't know anyone who'd be willing to wear animal fur, just because it's always associated with cruelty. Ambika Conroy (designer and creator of Ambika Friendly Furs), in a farm in the Catskill Mountains, raises angora rabbits and hand-crochets the fibre into jackets, earmuffs, leg-warmers, gloves and even bikinis. She times the bunnies' haircuts to their natural molting cycle - every three months.

London Fashion Weekend

23.3.16

It only gets better. I recently attended my second Fashion Weekend at the Saatchi Gallery on King's Road, aka one of the coolest places in London. I think that if you're not going to the big big deal lfw, it's less about the shows and more about the 'spectacle' and all that. Just being able to see all the designers' work, have really really good coffee and watch people who are cooler than you is amazing in itself.

& other stories x rachel antonoff

14.10.15

Just a quick post to tell you all to WATCH THIS NOW. It's a four minute film created by Rachel Antonoff for her collaboration will & other stories. It stars Zoe Kazan and is directed by Lena Dunham. Inspiring and funky to a whole new level.

dungarees

8.8.15

dun·ga·rees
ˌdəNGɡəˈrēz/
noun
  1. 1
    blue jeans or overalls.

2
NORTH AMERICAN
blue denim.

You might be a bit bored of this topic based on my previous post. I don't mind if it's a dress, shorts, patterned, or the good ol full length jeans, I love dungarees in any form. I am now proud to say ( just kidding ( kidding again )) I own two pairs. With a street style 'vibe' to them, I always feel so cutesy wearing them. Cutesy in a 'I want to look like I put no effort into my look, but that look takes a lot of effort' kinda way.

summer top and shorts: outfit grids

18.7.15

OUTFIT 1

top - H&M
sunglasses - vintage
shoes - vagabond
bag - vintage

I'm loving wearing super bright colours at the moment, and this bag over this top looks heavenly! Bright yellows, reds and brown leather compliment each other so nicely, or at least I think so. I'd say this is the perfect holiday outfit for wandering around town.

OUTFIT 2

top - H&M
bag - amazon
shoes - adidas
sunglasses - bought of those creepy people selling fake bags and sunglasses on the beach

This outfit is really, really basic and casual. The kind you'd wear to Sainsbury's after you've been forced to buy bread at 8am. Even complete with my old and very dirty school bag! In all seriousness, I wear these shoes 24/7, meaning they go with everything. EVERYTHING.

OUTFIT 3

top - H&M
jacket - vintage
hairband - vintage
sandals - asos

I think a jacket can really pull an outfit together and my suede jacket - as I've mentioned countless times before - it's perfect. I just love how it can add something to an outfit and spin it in a completely different direction. You could be wearing a skirt and crop top, looking all preppy, then add a bit of suede and you're a mysterious 70's bombshell ( I know that doesn't apply to the 70's but I couldn't think of another word ). The hairband I also love. It was gifted to me a few years ago.

Lazy Oaf SS15

16.4.15

With every new collection Lazy Oaf bring out, I find myself crying at: a) how expensive everything is, b) how much I want everything. Their SS15 one is flawless, all of it. Inspired by old school arcade games - mainly for the men's collection - it's overflowing with slogans and graphic prints. Geometrical patterns, surreal shapes - do they just know me? I love the super shirt and cloud sweatshirt in the summer collection, and the work of art shirt in the spring collection. The cloud sweatshirt. I need it. Urgent.

london fashion weekend

2.3.15

It was insane. Actually mind-blowing. I'm really super fortunate to have been able to sit in the front row of the Sibling show ( rhyme not intended )!! So me and Mia wandered about, you know, doing that 'blogger' thing. It's really hard to blend in with glitter and neon and fabulousness when you're wearing a grey jersey. 10/10 for effort Edie.

But woooow, everyone there was just perfect. And normal water and food isn't allowed, only fiji water and fruit flakes. I loved everything about it, and I'm praying I'll be able to go ( and get lost ) again.
